

The ChildrenWe saw nothing strange about the children conceived after the fire that destroyed our village. Women worked and waited through their nine months as usual. Huts and yards were rebuilt as winter swallowed autumn. The charcoal-scarred ground beneath our new huts was rubbed clean by bare feet and mud.
